Shifting base............. again

So I moved to Mumbai 6 weeks ago to join the TIFR Graduate School. Since then I've been staying with my Aunt and her family at Chembur. Now I'm moving to my own place nearby, saving me all the trouble of travelling through the length of Bombay everyday... TWICE!!! Now I have to move all my things from Chembur to Colaba which is like moving to another town.

So no more comments about Mumbai public transport unless something drastically nouveau comes my way.

Californication.......

(Borrowed from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers)

In poorer parts of India the concept of 'California' is represented by Bombay and for Urban India it's going to just about anywhere in America.Going West is what its all about. Well money is whats it's all about. These days it's also mostly about an American education.
Back home in Pune everyfamily that I know has some one studying in some American university or some one applying to American Universities or someone planning towards it or all of the above! Conversations overheard on my evening walks on the nearby hill invariably have the words "Kyaliphorniya", "Sane Phraneseesco" or something of the like. Mother's proudly boasting about their sons and daughters in places in America, fathers in T-shirts which spell things like "Penn State Dad" and people reciting stories of their recent trips to America and how 'it' is there, against 'it' here.

It's not like I'm against it... infact I'm one of the wannabe-Grad-student-in-USofA myself. I like the fact that Indian students are builiding a lobby. I'm not sure I understand or even know the American stand on this situation. Well hey!!! I think it would be quite amusing for some of the Americans to listen to these "mother-stories".
